IDM Consultants is directed and managed by Karl Wiggishoff who is admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa. Karl has achieved a Master's degree in environmental and development law from the University of Stellenbosch and practiced as a specialist in these fields for several years with successful law firms in both KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape. He subsequently secured a development management certificate hosted through Rhodes University, and went on to establish Integrated Development Management (IDM) Consultants.

While the Organisation initially focussed on providing land-legal, environ-legal and rural development consulting services to its clients, the organisation has expanded its range of expertise over time to include the assessment, facilitation, co-ordination and management of a diverse range of physical development projects in South Africa and southern Africa. This progression has required the organisation to develop a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary understanding of all applicable statutory and regulatory processes and procedures to be followed in securing a host of pre-requisite authorisations for a wide range of development initiatives and projects.

The organisation's competence and success in doing so on behalf of its clients at the pre-approval stage of the development process has further necessitated the organisation's expansion into the realm of development management (post-approval), and accordingly the organisation is also able to afford its clients a hands-on, personalised and integrated project management service during the operational and implementation phase of the project.

During the implementation and construction phase of the development, particular focus is placed on ensuring appropriate statutory and practical compliance with all relevant development authorisations previously secured for project implementation purposes, as well as ensuring an effective and constructive relationship between client, the professional team and contractors.

IDM Consultants comprises both in-house specialist development consultants, supported by an associated professional team, while still affording its clients the option of assembling an independent professional team where preferable (at client's instance), co-ordinated and managed under the banner of IDM Consultants as a single channel of communication throughout the development process.

The organisation has more recently established an in-house environmental-specific subsidiary entity (IDM Environmental), which apart from providing a range of broad environmental assessment services, has added additional capacity and competence through the introduction of a specialised Integrated Environmental Management Systems (IEMS) team, capable of providing national, trans-African border and international IEMS support to our clients.

Consequently the organisation is in the process of expanding its client base into emerging African economies, with particular focus on the mining (metals and minerals) and renewable resource industries, including oil and gas opportunities.
